Hi, Blu!

First, thank you for offering to take care of the kids after school in April 8 while I’m in mediation with Paul. My sister is in the final stage of studying for the federal bar, which will give her an edge in our law firm in PR and can’t do it. Although she hates leaving me alone on this, I can manage. I will coordinate with Paris Elementary for permission for Michael’s pickup.

Anger—I think it’s normal during and after divorce to feel angry over what you have to give up. Trust me on this: God has a path for you and me, for that matter. The fact that Tom and Paul are better fathers now to our children came as a result of the difficult decision we took. Paul never did homework or took care of the kids, but now he is. The kids are super happy (probably the same with yours). They got a better dad, but for that, we took the raw end of the deal.

The fact that you’re pursuing a nursing degree and bettering your skill set also came as a result of the divorce. The freedom you received as a result, although overwhelming at times, is an opportunity to do things you dreamed of but never had the chance to pursue while home schooling 100% of the time.

My journey—I’m putting myself out there, doing things I used to do when I was single. I’m a nature girl and love the deep ocean (my peace zone). I’m boating with my family and friends. I run every day. While running with Jen (my Tuesday running partner), this woman was about to bring me down on the legacy trail for fun, because she thought I was her best friend. When she came close, she realized she didn’t know me and passed me by on her bike…came back and apologized and introduced herself. I made a new friend that day.

You might have to put yourself outside the comfort zone of your home to meet new people. The hot yoga might help that process. Go traveling, go to the theater, or go zip lining in Bradenton. Do it all! There is zero cost in walking a trail or biking (cheaper than yoga). I won’t let my forties pass me by like my thirties. Hell, no! In fact, I might go to France to visit Nathaly in her beach house this summer. She did something for me during the divorce, and I’ll always be grateful. She gave me a surprise weapon to use in mediation with Paul. (I hope I don’t need it).

Enjoy each day and unleash the genius in you. You remind me of my favorite painter, Pablo Picasso, a genius who wasn’t very well understood during his lifetime. My divorced brother has six girlfriends (he is increasing his time on earth). I’m not saying you should do that, but each person has her own journey to make. Enjoy it to the fullest. I know I will.
